Criminology Submission Guidelines
Manuscripts should be submitted as Microsoft Word or PDF files. Manuscript submissions should be formatted in twelve-point Times New Roman font with 1-inch margins on all sides. Footnotes should be single-spaced and numbered serially.
The Criminology Section has no formal length requirements, but articles between 35-50 pages are preferred.
The first page of the manuscript should be anonymized to facilitate the peer review process.
Criminology manuscripts that use the Bluebook format are preferred; however, we will review Criminology submissions that utilize other citation formats. In that case, our editors will assist the author with the translation of citations into Bluebook format after an article has been accepted. All graphs, charts, and similar material should be submitted with the manuscript, either in text or in a separate file.
Criminology Peer Review Process
Criminology manuscripts are first reviewed by the Managing Criminology Editor in a “desk review.” If the piece is selected by the editing team to enter peer review, the process takes 3-4 months depending on the availability of peer reviewers, the uniqueness of the piece’s topic, and other factors.
Manuscripts submitted for Criminology review may not be concurrently submitted to other Journals. We make every effort to ensure expedited desk review of Criminology manuscripts.
Please direct questions regarding the submission of Criminology manuscripts and the peer review process to the Managing Criminology Editor Karina Mendez at karina.mendez@law.northwestern.edu.
The Journal no longer accepts book review manuscripts.
Except under unusual circumstances, it is the policy of the Journal not to publish articles that have appeared or are to appear in other publications. Accordingly, all manuscripts should be submitted with the understanding that the Journal possesses the exclusive right of original publication. We do, however, accept manuscripts that have been or are concurrently posted on SSRN.
A total of twenty-five reprints are supplied gratis to the author or authors of each article. Additional reprints may be obtained by arrangement with the Editors of the Journal prior to publication, or by arrangement with the printer after publication.
Any further questions may be addressed to jclc@law.northwestern.edu.
